As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace. – 1 Peter 4:10
Stewardship is the responsible planning and management of resources. The practice of Biblical stewardship is returning a portion of one’s time, talent, and treasure back to God in gratitude for the gifts that He has given to us. Some things to keep in mind as you strive to live a life of stewardship:
- God expects us to be good stewards and has from the beginning of time
- Everything we have is a gift from God – we can take credit for nothing
- We need to live a life of gratitude, being thankful for the gifts that God has given to us
- Giving of our time, talent, and treasure through stewardship transforms the giver as much as it helps the receiver
- Stewardship also involves giving of our time as we spend time with God in prayer
- Throughout the Gospels, Jesus challenges us to give as it has been given to us
- While our society encourages us to strive for more and more, in stewardship we recognize that we have more than enough
